YouTube for LLMO: improve video titles, captions and descriptions

Improve one existing YouTube demo with worked title, description, caption and chapter examples. Verify the published changes and separately record citations in AI answers.
Your company already has a demonstration video, but its title says only “Product introduction.” The captions misspell the product name, and the description contains little beyond a homepage link. Before filming another video, you can improve that existing one.
This guide is for someone who can edit their company’s YouTube channel. It explains how to improve a published video’s title, description, captions and chapters, then separately check whether an AI answer cites the video.
LLMO—large language model optimization—concerns how a business and its information appear in AI answers. The sources reviewed here do not establish that editing a video guarantees recommendations. The immediate deliverable is simpler: a customer can understand which question the video answers and find the relevant demonstration.
We use Minato Booking (みなと予約), a fictional booking service for Japanese hair salons, throughout. Replace its name, demonstrated features and example URL with your own verified details. Instructions refer to desktop YouTube Studio and were checked against official help on October 11, 2026. Japanese interface labels are included where useful for readers managing a Japanese channel.
Why include YouTube in an LLMO review?
Check the source and role of official videos, independent reviews and citations in AI answers separately.
YouTube is one place to check when reviewing information about your business in AI search. An Ahrefs study of 75,000 brands found an association between YouTube brand mentions and mentions in AI answers. It does not establish that editing captions causes more recommendations.
An AI citation is different from a YouTube ranking
The outcome to check here is whether an AI answer links to your video as a source. A high position in YouTube search, a video view and an inquiry from a viewer are different outcomes.
For example, an answer about entering a salon booking might include a demonstration video. Open the citation to check the channel and the relevant scene. A mention of the service name alone does not identify which source the AI used.
The Ahrefs sample also applied brand-selection thresholds, including search demand. It was not an experiment measuring what happens when a small Japanese company corrects one caption. Record your own observations separately from the study.
Separate an official demonstration from an independent review
Your own video can accurately explain a product and its limitations. It does not serve the same purpose as an independent customer’s assessment.
A label such as “Minato Booking: official demonstration” makes the source clear. A company-made video should not be presented as a review by an unrelated user. Publishing more company videos does not, by itself, create more independent endorsements.
For a separate discussion of external coverage, see our third-party media guide (Japanese). This guide focuses on a video your team can directly edit.
Choose one existing video to review for AI search
Fictional example: match the customer’s question to the booking operation actually demonstrated.
Start with a video that answers a recurring customer question through an actual demonstration. Choosing a clear customer use for the video makes the description easier to write than choosing on view count alone.
Match the customer’s question to a scene in the video
Our fictional example concerns a salon employee asking: “Can I enter a booking after taking it over the phone?”
Assume the company already has a three-minute demonstration showing a date and staff member being selected, the booking being saved, and the result appearing in a booking list. Watch your own video and confirm that the answer is actually visible.
| Item to check | Fictional example |
|---|---|
| Customer question | Can staff enter a telephone booking afterwards? |
| Demonstrated action | Select the date and staff member, then save the booking |
| Visible result | The saved booking appears in the list |
| Outside this video’s scope | Payments, notifications and automatic customer messages |
If the video contains no payment demonstration, do not describe it as a guide to both bookings and payments. Defining its scope first helps the description match what viewers will see.
Open the video in YouTube Studio
Open YouTube Studio with an account that can manage your channel. Choose Content / コンテンツ, then select the video’s title or thumbnail to edit its details. The official settings guide documents this route.
If the video is missing, check which channel is selected. These steps cannot edit another company’s video or a channel for which you lack permission.
Save a copy of the current title, description and public video URL before making changes. Compare the video and its public page once so that you know you are editing the intended item.
Write a specific YouTube title and description
Conceptual illustration, not a screenshot: explain the task in the title and link to an official page from the description.
Use the title to explain the task the video demonstrates. Use the description to explain who it is for, what it covers and where to find official details. A readable explanation is more useful than a list of search terms.
Name the audience and the question the video answers
The fictional demonstration could be retitled as follows. This is an editorial example, not a measured AI-citation result.
| Before | Example after editing |
|---|---|
| Introducing Minato Booking | How salon staff can enter a telephone booking — Minato Booking demo |
The revised title lets a salon employee recognize the task and identifies the product being demonstrated.
Replace three parts: the audience, the operation actually shown, and the product name. Before adding claims such as “easiest” or “increase sales,” check whether the video provides evidence for them.
Describe the demonstration and link to an official page
Here is a complete description example. The URL is fictional; replace it with an existing public page for your own service.
For salon staff who take bookings over the phone: this video demonstrates how to enter a booking afterwards in Minato Booking.
It covers selecting a date and staff member and checking the saved booking in the list. Payment and automatic notification settings are not covered.
Minato Booking — official service page

Produced and published by Minato Booking.
After editing the title and description, choose Save / 保存. Reopen the public video description to confirm the change. If your existing homepage is the appropriate destination, use it rather than inventing a pricing-page URL.
Linking to an existing page does not require a website code change. If the link is not clickable, check YouTube’s official link guidance; Shorts and long-form videos do not have identical link behavior.
Check product names and numbers in YouTube captions
Fictional example: if the spoken time is 15:00 but the caption says 05:00, check the audio and correct the caption.
Compare captions with the spoken audio. A wrong product name or appointment time can mislead someone watching without sound.
On-screen text and selectable captions are different
Text added to the video during editing is part of the picture. YouTube captions are a separate track that viewers can switch on and off. A correctly spelled name in the picture does not ensure the caption track is correct.
In our Japanese example, the speaker says “みなと予約で、15時の予約を登録します” (enter a 3 p.m. booking in Minato Booking). Suppose the captions show “港予約で、5時の予約を登録します.” The product name and time need correction after checking the audio.
Do not insert advertising or search phrases the speaker did not say. Nor does this guide assume that every AI system is unable to understand a video without captions. The immediate purpose is to make the spoken explanation readable and accurate.
Publish the correction, then check it during playback
In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles / 字幕, choose the video and select its Japanese caption track. Use Edit / 編集 for an existing editable track or Duplicate and edit / 複製して編集 for automatic captions. If prompted to overwrite a draft, first check whether it contains work you need to keep.
Correct the relevant line and choose Publish / 公開. See the official caption-editing instructions. If there is no caption track, follow the separate instructions for adding subtitles.
Finally, enable captions on the public video and play the corrected moment. In this example, both “みなと予約” and “15時” should match the audio. Verify the viewer-facing result, not just the text inside the editor.
Use video chapters to point viewers to the right scene
Fictional chapter example. Replace timestamps with actual scene starts; spacing is not proportional to time.
Chapters are navigation points within a video. Adding a scene’s start time and label helps viewers find the operation they need.
Enter timestamps and chapter names starting at 00:00
For our fictional three-minute demo, assume the scenes start at these times. Add the following as plain text at the end of the description:
00:00 Entering a telephone booking
00:25 Selecting the date and staff member
01:40 Checking the saved booking in the list
These times demonstrate the format. Replace them with the real start times in your own video. A chapter that jumps to an unrelated scene does not help the viewer.
For manual chapters, begin at 00:00, list at least three timestamps in ascending order, and make each chapter at least ten seconds long. Saved manual chapters take precedence over automatic ones. See YouTube’s chapter instructions.
Select each chapter and check where playback moves
On the public page, select the timestamp for “Selecting the date and staff member.” Check that it reaches that operation. Test each chapter: saving the text and correctly directing a viewer are separate checks.
If chapters do not appear, review the starting timestamp, the number of chapters and their duration. If these meet the requirements, use the official help to check channel conditions such as access to advanced features.
Completion means a customer can reach the intended explanation. It does not mean AI citations have increased; that requires a separate observation.
Measure video changes separately from AI citations
Left: verify the published edit. Right: inspect the source linked in an AI answer. Editing alone does not establish citation growth.
You can verify a published edit immediately. Whether an AI answer subsequently uses the video is a different question. Do not combine both into a single “optimization complete” checkmark.
Verify the public title, description and captions
Leave the editor and open the public video URL. If possible, also check in a browser that is not signed in so you can see the material as an ordinary viewer.
| Area | Completion check |
|---|---|
| Title | Names the task and the service |
| Description | Explains the audience and scope |
| Official link | Opens the correct public page |
| Captions | Names and numbers match the audio |
| Chapters | Each selection reaches the relevant scene |
At this point, sales or support staff have a more useful link to send to a customer asking about telephone bookings. That practical benefit does not depend on waiting for an AI recommendation.
Open the citation and check whether it is your video
Use an AI service you normally work with and ask a question that reflects a real buying situation. An example is: “Which salon booking services let staff enter telephone bookings afterwards? Include material that demonstrates the operation.” Open the links in the answer.
If you supply your own video URL in the prompt, you may be testing whether the AI can read it. That is not evidence that the AI independently discovered and selected it. Keep those tests separate.
Record these fields in a note or spreadsheet:
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Date, time and AI service | The actual observation conditions |
| Question | The exact prompt sent |
| Answer record | A saved response or screenshot |
| Citation | The URL you actually opened, or “no link” |
| Video edit date | When the title, captions or other details changed |
Compare the same question before and after editing, across more than one answer. If the cited source is another page, record that URL instead. To review your website too, see the AI-citation and improvement-report guide (Japanese).
Frequently asked questions about YouTube and LLMO
Choose based on a customer use case. If a useful video exists, start by improving it.
These edits make an existing explanation more accurate and easier to inspect. Whether to produce another video is a separate decision about customer needs.
Will better captions or descriptions guarantee AI citations?
No. Making the explanation clearer and having an AI system select that video are different outcomes. First confirm the public edit, then keep records of actual questions and citations over time.
Should a company with no videos start filming immediately?
Video is worth considering when customers need to see an operation or a difference demonstrated. There is no need to recreate an adequate written or photographic explanation solely for AI optimization.
If you have videos, start with one your team frequently sends in response to inquiries. Clarify its title, correct caption errors and help viewers reach the relevant scene before committing to a new production budget.
